Accessibility

The people most likely to need this site are elderly, unwell, or reading it on a cheap phone on a slow connection at a difficult moment. Accessibility here is not a compliance exercise; it is the whole job.

The site is built from ordinary semantic HTML with real headings, lists and landmarks, so a screen reader can move through it. Everything that can be clicked can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and focus is visible.

If your device is set to reduce motion, every animation on this site turns off — the scrolling photo wall, the sideways rail, the counters and the headline reveals all render in their finished state instead.

Text sits on colours chosen for contrast, and it reflows rather than breaking when you enlarge it. Nothing plays sound. Nothing moves on its own except a slow drift behind the opening photograph, which also stops under reduced motion.

Both languages are published as separate pages with correct language attributes, so a screen reader pronounces Hindi as Hindi rather than reading Devanagari as English.

Decorative photographs carry empty alternative text so a screen reader skips them, rather than reading out a description of a stock photo as if it were the trust's work. The press cuttings and newspaper covers, which are real, carry real descriptions.

The press cuttings and newspaper issues are images and PDFs of printed Hindi newspapers. Their text cannot be read by a screen reader. Each one has a written summary beside it, which is a mitigation and not a substitute.

The site has not yet been tested with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. That is the next thing worth paying for.
